History

History of the factory

1991

Engineering manufacture TONAR started its existence in 1991. Former weaving-mill territory (Gubino vil., Orekhovo-Zuevo district, Moscow area) was occupied as the first squares of the future manufacture. The two genuine pioneers of machine-building business were the first to prove that Russian manufactures are worth dealing with. Their names are now widely known in the commercial vehicle trailer market – Vladimir Pazychev & Urij Vainshtein. The leaders` wide experience, up-to-date engineering solutions and marketing policy made a good investment for the future. The first lot of two-axle car trailers was quite effectively sold out in Moscow. Polish businessmen were the first to make their contribution to the positive overall development of sales revenue. The total increase within this period has therefore proved the right production policy chosen by leadership together with engineering stuff. The ever-growing demand, however, didn’t meet the manufacture’s productive capacities. It resulted in the spreading of work area and capital expenditure. The required high-powered equipment, obtained with the help of the well-timed credit given by a well off collective farm, delivered brilliant results. Productive volumes were steadily increasing and further strengthened TONAR`s market positions. The ancient XX century factory workshops were remodeled and well fit out.

1992

To follow up on its record sales, TONAR had to face the severe decline on the overall trailer machinery market. In the view of the difficult economic situation, the material costs went up by 5 times compared with the previous years. Realization of the production was reduced to the minimum inflation rates were continuously growing. In order to respond to the change in order volumes, TONAR was focused to invest in expansion of the product range and takeover of the new engineering areas. TONAR was able to retain its market shares primarily in respect of food products, as it was one of the main national expenses at that time. This factor turned to be the decisive one in fabrication of transportable commercial stalls. It enabled to sell foodstuff right on the point anywhere you like. This opportunity gave the salesmen a more convenient and better equipped working place. The design was fully completed by June 1992 and the newly presented unit was sent to Nizhniy Novgorod fair, where it built up a reputation of trustworthy machinery. Consequently, order volumes have attained a great increase for this period. TONAR outperformed the positive trend seen on the vehicle market with more customers choosing a commercial stall from TONAR. To keep up with the demand the second shift was introduced. By the end of 1992 the output of the stalls increased up to 15 times. The successful development in sales volumes proved that TONAR grew stronger. Its name became a common noun for other TONAR-like stalls, as Moscow government regulations stand.

1993

To achieve further results TONAR planned an expansion of the product range. Insulated trailers were put under production already at the beginning of 1993. A group of specialists thoroughly explored such body constructions and mastered polyurethane technology. As the result of the long-term strategic approach employed by the company, was the application of eight new models to the repetition work. Insulated bodies, refrigerated trailers on «Gazel», «Bychok», «ZIL», «MAZ» and «KamAZ» chassis steadily gained their market shares.

1994-1997 In search of new solutions.

In 1994 all the factory equipment was renewed and some up-to-date technology was integrated. The production area was greatly extended. The continuous uptrend of the company resulted in maintaining external economic links. By this time TONAR possessed the manufacturing area of more than 5 000 m2. The complete information on the foam polyurethane bodies construction has been adopted by 1996. The factory was badly in need of good outfit providers. Hence, Urij Vainshtein concluded a treaty with some foreign firms to supply priming machine. Laser units TRUMPF was specially stocked in Germany to cut metal sheet. This unique machinery is able to make units of different complexity. The bending press of the same manufacturer and the new plasma-cutting unit Zinser was stocked to perform the outstanding product quality. The unique press for zinc-coated steel sandwich-panels production was assembled together with the German firm HENNECKE. This is the result of a long-term approach investigated by the company management. Because we know how innovative ideas can pay off in practice. Thanks to complete technique factory outfit and workforce we managed to start full-size, heavyweight semi trailers production. The creative, innovative concepts and solutions that we implement show an outstanding price/performance ratio.

The range of semi trailers is fully certified and has “State Standard Vehicle Type Approbation” as well as the European Certification approving high insulation qualities.

1998-2004

The tempos of production increased greatly. Soon the need arose to extend the stocking areas as well as creating the sales office. To guarantee wide availability of our products and to make sales operation more effective a new commercial center was built in 1998 near Ozherelki village (83 km, Moscow/Nizhnij Novgorod highway). In development, production specification advice and aftermarket, Tonar customers can rely on competent people who are committed to quality. Sales office personal is always ready to supply any specifications and provide a rapid realization of any customer requirement. The big show area presents Tonar product range as varied as the application for which our products are used. In a nearby two-storied block customers are able to find spare parts shop as well as everyday goods department. A cosy cafe, petrol station and guarded parking place are always at customers’ service.
Our customer-orientated approach is evident from the success of our products and services as well as from the long-term success of our customers and partners.

During 2004 the total area of the factory expanded up to 15 000 m2. Nowadays it contains pressing machinery, bodies and semi trailers assembling workshops, glass-fiber paint room, semi trailers repair room, frame production workshops as well as woodwork manufactory. We already have powerful presses and welding units. A large zinc-coated line has set into operation. Its enormous size (5 m length, 2.7 m depth) enables to zinc semi trailers whole though decreasing the products prime cost. The output of the axles with load capacity from 700 kg to 10 tons continuously goes up. The most part of the workshops is equipped with the digital program control. Our product policy is equally reliable, designed with an eye to the future and the aim to provide a favourable life cycle value.

Tonat today is a major driving force in the world of commercial vehicles in Russia. It has more than 500 employees and production area of 15 hectares. The output increased in 6.4 times. In 2005 a new production area of 18 000 m2 was projected to house all the high-tech equipment, such as laser units TRUMPF and EHT, guillotine-shears RAS (Germany). During this year Tonar has set to produce:
• Four-axle tipper Tonar-95231 with V 38 m3 and 45 tones load capacity powered axle.
• A range of container chassis suitable for Tonar-97462, 974623, 974624.
• Movable truck for simulated blocks transportation.
• Container chassis with movable three-axle truck.
• Axles Tonar-7533 model suitable for wheels 17,5``, axle load capacity – 7500 kg, disk brakes (constructed together with WABCO)

We implement creative, innovative ideas and solutions to meet any requirement. Tonar products nowadays are competitive in the trailer market and are able to offer its customers total reliability. We try to negotiate any deal with the mutual understanding and complete confidence.

An eye to the future

The future investigations in the sphere of innovative technology promises to result in operation of a robotic welding line, new hot zincing room (14m x 1m x 3m bathes). A new semi trailer-tipper with plowing rear side, semi trailer with a broken line frame with axles for wheels 17.5`` and V – 120 m3, trough-shaped semi trailer tipper with the V-26 m3 and 34 tons load capacity are under construction now. A preproduction range of axles for Tonar-9042 with 9000 kg maximum axle load and 390 kg dead weight is already manufactured and soon it’ll come directly to repetition work.
For our further development of customer-oriented approach we are intended to build a service center, containing automatic cleaning. It’ll serve to provide both maintenance and repair work to 5 semi trailers. To care about its employees a modernized building will soon be built to include a canteen and first-aid post.
